چکیده

Scarsity is the notion that the Jacobian J for a given function f : Rn !→ Rm may have fewer than n ∗m degrees of freedom. A scarse J may be represented by a graph with a minimal edge count. So far, scarsity has been recognized only from a high-level application point of view, and no automatic exploitation has been attempted. We introduce an approach to recognize and use scarsity in computational graphs in a source transformation context. The goal is to approximate the minimal graph representation through a sequence of transformations including eliminations, reroutings, and normalizations, with a secondary goal of minimizing the transformation cost. The method requires no application-level insight and is implemented as a fully automatic transformation in OpenAD. This paper introduces the problem and a set of heuristics to approximate the minimal graph representation. We also present results on a set of test problems.

AN EFFICIENT METAHEURISTIC ALGORITHM FOR ENGINEERING OPTIMIZATION: SOPT

Metaheuristic algorithms are well-known optimization tools which have been employed for solving a wide range of optimization problems so far. In the present study, a simple optimization (SOPT) algorithm with two main steps namely exploration and exploitation, is provided for practical applications. Aside from a reasonable rate of convergence attained, the ease in its implementation and dependen...

Identification and Comparison of Components Influencing Rangeland Exploitation from Pastorals and Experts' Viewpoints Using SWOT and AHP

Abstract. Over the past decades, range managers have devoted extensive efforts to conserve and restore rangelands and sustain their exploitation but these efforts are more focused on the classic sciences and the exploiters' knowledge and experience have been neglected in the process. Therefore, current study was done to deal with the prioritizing and comparing factors affecting rangeland exploi...

Population dynamics of the shrimp Penaeus semisulcatus in the Yemeni Red Sea waters

Length-based analyses were conducted to assess the stock of the green tiger shrimp Penaeus semisulcatus. Monthly carapace length frequency data were collected from commercial catches at two main landing sites on the Yemeni Red Sea coast for eight months. Growth parameters, mortalities, exploitation rate and yield per recruit were estimated for this species in this area. The estimated growth par...
